Programmes implemented by SDDS in the last three years
2. Women Empowerment & Gender
Sensitization - Gender
Sensitization programme were organized for SHG women in 6 blocks of Sindhudurg
District. Various aspects of gender
inequality and in equity were discussed in which we covered various aspects and
dimensions of Gender Equity.
3. Agriculture Development
Programme - Initially
with the help of local NGO’s, the farmers were motivated to plant ginger,
saffron, cereals at 25 villages and also as a part of organic fertilizer
farmers planted gliricedia in their farm land. They also started vermin compost
shades and compost preparation process.
6. Flood Relief Programme - Three Flood relief programmes were conducted by the society for last three four years supporting 501 families with flood relief kits at Kharepatan, Masura, Bhironda, Sawantwadi, Paushi, Nerur and Banda with the financial help of CASA, Caritas
7. Capacity Building Programmes for Grassroots and
Staff - SDDS
organized various kinds of Short training programmes like Resource
Mobilization, PME and programmes on PRI, RBA and HIV/AIDS for the Staff and
Leaders.
8. Coaching
classes for children - Around 250 poor, weaker and deserving
students were helped through evening coaching classes.
9. Women’s
Day Programme - The celebration of International
Women’s Day is conducted every year at 6 centres in the diocese for last six
years. The SHG women contribute the programme by performing dances and plays.
11. Small Income Generation Programme - As
Income Generation Alternatives - Food
Processing: Training was held on Papad & other food items making at Vengurla, Masura, Otavane,
Karivade, Bhironda, Oros, Bhedshi and Sawantwadi. Total 248 people
atteneded the training programme. Income
Generation Activities were held for last 3 years at SDDS Sawantwadi where
different types of Chips, various types of juices, Candy, Jam, Mava were
prepared and different food products likes
Laddus, Chakalis, Samosas, etc. were prepared by them in which 83 women participated
and learnt on the various income generation alternative options.
12. Animal Husbandry Programme – Animal Husbandry Programmes were conducted at 5 Centres. Total 150 farmers attended the training. Resource Persons covered topics such as Types of Diseases, Preventive measures and First- Aid, Use of home remedies for prevention, Govt. Schemes on Poultry and Pig rearing, Cattle rearing, Importance of Hygiene for animal, Feeding of animal, Govt. Schemes related to animal husbandry, Types of cattle’s, Traditional practices of chicks rearing, etc. were covered. Various diseases related to livestock were discussed and professional way of managing livestock development was highlighted.
13. General Medical Camps were organized with the help of partners and Government Medical Department in which posters were exhibited on various health and hygiene issues.
